OMEGA FISH OIL BENEFITS

Omegas are the most popular supplement taken worldwide. They are associated with a whole host of mind and body benefits. Just look at this list:

WHAT ARE OMEGA OILS

Omega-3 fatty acids are a type of polyunsaturated fat. These can be broken down into 3 major types: EPA. DHA and ALA.

ALA is the plant-derived omega-3. This is classed as essential, meaning it’s essential you obtain this in your diet daily via either food and/or supplements, because your body cannot produce this on its own.

EPA and DHA are marine-sourced omega-3’s. These are termed as  “conditionally essential” as technically your body can synthesize these from ALA (assuming you consume sufficient ALA). However, science continues to tell us that the conversion rate of ALA into EPA and DHA is very low, which is why it’s recommended to obtain EPA and DHA from food and/or supplements.

Pretty Pea’s OMEGA is a high strength formula (1000mg). It’s a specially blended combination of these healthy fats, EPA, DHA and ALA. OMEGA is high in EPA and DHA with balanced ratio’s of each for optimum intake of polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fatty acids. These healthful fats are derived from a combination of sunflower seed oil, flaxseed oil and fish oil (marine being the best source) plus with added antioxidant Vitamin E.

Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids are both essential and must be obtained from your diet via food and/or supplementing as your body cannot produce them.

    WHAT ARE ESSENTIAL FATTY ACIDS

    • DHA (docosahexaenoic acid)  This can be found in several types of fatty fish and seafoods, plus in plant-based sources like algae (algal oil). DHA supports total body health, especially know for it’s brain, eye, heart and joint benefits. It’s brain benefits can be associated with neurological function, and in particular with memory, learning ability, and long-term cognitive health.
    • A 2017 systemic review and meta-analysis of randomised trials found that taking fish oil supplements reduces symptoms of joint pain having a ‘significant effect’ in patients with rheumatoid arthritis.
    • EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) alongside DHA, this is also marine-sourced so can be found in fatty fish and seafoods. EPA’s benefits include cardiovascular health (lipids, blood pressure, vascular function) and promoting a healthy inflammatory response in your body.
    • ALA (alpha-linolenic acid) Uniquely this omega-3 can only be found in plant-based sources and is found in particular seeds (flax, chia, hemp) and nuts. The body then converts some ALA into EPA or DHA, albeit at very modest levels. It’s benefits are linked to brain and mood boosting.
